Connect your instruments to the rear inputs. Go full stereo or expand your palette with up to 12 mono sources.

FAQs

Can I hear all of the inputs simultaneously?

No—the SS-6 is a switcher, not a mixer. You’ll hear one stereo input at a time, routed to both the DI and thru outputs.

What transformers are in the DI circuit?

We use a custom-wound transformer we developed in collaboration with our factory partners. It’s flat, quiet, and tuned for clarity and headroom.

What are the "through" connectors?

Thru connectors tap your input signal before it hits the DI. Use them to send to amps, FX, or tuners without interrupting your main signal path.

Why not just use a mixer instead?

A mixer and a DI box serve very different roles. The SS-6 is designed to get the cleanest possible signal from your synths, drum machines, or instruments into your recording chain—especially if you’re using mic preamps for colour or clarity.

 

Mixers add active circuitry, EQ stages, and a gain structure that can introduce noise or colouration. The SS-6 has none of that. It’s a direct, transformer-balanced, passive path.

 

If you want to record one instrument at a time with the best signal chain possible, and you want to avoid constantly repatching or crawling under desks, the SS-6 is the better tool.

What is a DI box?

A DI (Direct Inject) box takes instrument-level signals—like those from synths, drum machines, samplers, or guitars—and converts them to mic-level signals that play nice with your preamps and interfaces.

 

It also balances the signal, which helps you run long cables without picking up hum or interference. That means quieter recordings and tighter integration with pro-level gear.

 

The SS-6 adds transformer isolation, so you get clean, low-noise tone with no ground loops and no surprises in your signal path.

The signal level on the DI outputs seems low?

Yes, that’s what a DI box does. The SS-6 outputs a passive, mic-level signal so it can properly interface with your preamps—just like any traditional DI.

Is there any noise or popping when switching inputs?

No. Switching is silent under normal use. If you ever hear popping, it’s likely DC offset from a misbehaving synth—not the SS-6.
